Overview

This collection explores Oakley through the lens of outdoor performance, utility, and contemporary fashion. I wanted to translate Oakley’s technical identity into a cohesive apparel collection while pushing its visual language beyond traditional activewear. The collection follows a progression from preparation to movement to achievement, represented through three looks: The Trailhead, The Ascent, and The Summit.

Research & Direction

I studied Oakley’s history, product design, and approach to performance to understand what makes the brand recognizable. I looked closely at its use of technical materials, functional details, protective forms, and bold visual language. This research helped me identify the balance between performance and lifestyle that became the foundation for the collection.

Exploration & Iteration

I explored how Oakley’s existing design language could translate into apparel through silhouette, construction, layering, and functional details. I experimented with proportions and garment combinations to create looks that feel technical while still fitting within a contemporary fashion context. The three final looks became a progression, each representing a different stage of an outdoor journey.

The Trailhead

The Trailhead focuses on the beginning of the hike and carrying the essentials for the terrain ahead. It features a lightweight long-sleeve with body-mapped ventilation, technical cargo shorts with eyelet ventilation and accessory attachment points, and a running vest for keeping water and trail essentials close to the body.

The Ascent

The Ascent focuses on versatility as the hike becomes more demanding. The pullover anorak features multiple storage pockets, with the front pouch converting into a sling bag when removing a layer. The convertible cargo pants feature removable lower legs and angled zippered pockets for accessible storage.

The Summit

The Summit is designed for harsher conditions and greater protection. The shell jacket features storm flaps and layered ventilation panels, while the insulated pants use curved seams for movement, multiple zippered storage pockets, and lower-leg zippers with gussets to accommodate larger footwear.

Fishing Vest

I also explored how Oakley’s technical outdoor approach could translate into fishing. The vest uses MOLLE webbing for adjustable storage, integrated rear backpack storage, and larger front pockets with fly-drying patches. I designed it with freshwater, fly, and saltwater fishing in mind while maintaining the visual language of the Oakley collection.
